What this page covers

This page is about My Storage’s website: what it collects while you use it and what happens to that. It is not the rental agreement. If you rent a unit, the agreement you sign is a separate document and it governs your unit, your account and your things.

What you tell us, and when

There is one form of ours on this site: the message form on the contact page.

When you send it, we receive what you typed into it:

Your name
Your phone number, if you give one
Your email address
What you wrote in the message box

The phone number is optional. The rest is how we read what you sent and answer it.

Renting online is not our form. On either page where you rent a unit, the English one or the Spanish one, Storable run their own rental flow inside our page: your name, your address, the identification you show and your card are typed into their software and go to them, under their own privacy terms. Of all that, this website keeps only the name, phone number and email you type into the first step of their form, the gate access code you make up for the keypad, and the type of card you pay with and its last four digits. All three are explained further down. None of the rest is sent to this website and none of it is kept here.

What we do with it

Three things happen when you send that message, and nothing else does:

What you sent is emailed to us, so we can answer it.
You are emailed a copy, with a reference code you can read down the phone.
It is kept on file here under that same reference, so it still exists if an email goes astray.

We do not sell it, rent it, or hand it to anybody for advertising. It exists so somebody can get back to you.

What the website records by itself

Two pages on this site load the rental system our storage software company, Storable, runs: the pages where you rent a unit online, one in English and one in Spanish. Everything that happens in it happens with them: choosing the unit, the insurance decision, proving who you are, the payment and signing the lease. What you type into it goes to them, under their own privacy terms, and it may leave things in your browser so that a rental you have half finished is still there when you come back. No other page on this site loads it, and nothing on this site sends them anything about you unless you use it.

We count what people do on this website: how many tapped the phone number, opened the online rental page, or looked up a unit size. It tells us which pages are worth keeping. Those counts are kept on our own server and they hold no name, no email address, no internet address and nothing else that could be traced back to you or joined up into a profile.

On the rental page we watch our own page more closely, because it is the one where something going wrong costs you a unit: which step you reached, how long a box took to load, whether something failed. We record which field you were in and how long you spent there, and we do not read what you type into it, with three exceptions. The first is the gate access code you make up for the keypad. We keep that number, because when the rental system refuses one it does not say why, and the number is how we find out and help you get through. The second is your first name, last name, phone number and email on the first step of the rental form. We keep those from the moment you move on to the next box, or your browser fills them in for you, even if you never press the button, so that if the form gives you trouble we can call you back and help you finish, and so we know who has just reserved or rented a unit. They go into the emails the website sends us about the rental form, and are seen only by us and the people who answer our phone. We never use them for advertising and we never sell them. The third is on the payment step: we keep the type of card you pay with and its last four digits, so that if a payment is refused we can tell which card was tried and help you get through. We never keep the full card number, the expiry date, the security code or any bank account number. If the rental system shows an error we keep a short version of its wording, and anything in it that looks like an email address or a long number is thrown away before it is stored. Each visit to that page gets a random label, so the steps of one rental read as one journey instead of as strangers. It is not a cookie, your browser forgets it the moment you close the tab, and it is not linked to any other visit. The only things you type that it is ever attached to are that gate access code, which is also held by the facility with your rental, the name, phone number and email from the first step of the form, and the type and last four digits of your card. Your browser also keeps one small mark for us that records nothing except that this browser has been to the rental page before, so we can tell somebody coming back from somebody arriving for the first time; it is the same mark in every browser that has one, and it identifies nobody.

We use Google Analytics to count visits, to see which pages people use, and to tell whether the advertising we pay for is bringing anybody here. What it records goes to Google and is handled under Google’s own terms.

Google sees your internet address when its counting loads, the same way every website you open sees it. We ourselves use it for one purpose, stopping a machine from flooding us: the message form accepts 6 sends every 15 minutes from one connection, and the rental page’s own records, including the details kept for a callback, are limited the same way. Those counters stop counting within the hour, are cleared out automatically as the site is used, and are not attached to your message or your details.

Google Analytics puts cookies in your browser: ones that count visits, so somebody coming back is not counted as a new person, and one on the rental page that tells Google whether an advert we paid for led to a rental. They are Google’s, not ours. We set no cookie of our own on this website.

Our web host and our email provider necessarily handle what passes through them: a request has to arrive somewhere and an email has to be delivered by somebody. They act for us and for nobody else.

How long we keep it

A message is kept while we are dealing with it and afterwards as our record of it, in the same way a business keeps a note of who called. If you would rather we did not keep yours, tell us and ask for it to be taken out. A person will do it by hand.

The name, phone number and email kept from the rental form, and the last four digits of your card, are removed automatically about 30 days after you last changed them. The emails the website sent us about your visit stay in our inbox like any other email. If you would rather we removed yours sooner, ask us and a person will do it.

Children

This site is for people renting storage. It is not aimed at children and we do not knowingly collect anything from one.

Changes to this page

If what the site does changes, this page changes with it, and the date at the top moves. There is no archive of previous versions.
